Planning & Inspo Gathering

Before we even touch a pencil (or Apple Pencil), we’re gonna zoom way out and set you up to make a font that doesn’t just look cool but actually SELLS.

This module is all about laying the groundwork: we’ll explore how to choose the right font idea by identifying market gaps, scouring the weird corners of the internet (and real world, of course) for inspiration, infusing your unique style, and anchoring your font in a compelling narrative that gives it that “I need this” factor.

Whether you’re going for a groovy display or minimalist sans, this is where the magic starts 🌟

Drawing & Inking the Font

Now that you’ve got a killer concept, it’s time to bring those letterforms to life. This module is where we dive into setting up your canvas the right way, building consistent character shapes, and developing a workflow that feels natural (not overwhelming).

You’ll learn how to keep things looking cohesive *without* sacrificing personality, and I’ll share the exact techniques I use to keep momentum without spiraling into perfectionist quicksand. Whether you're team iPad or desktop, you’ll walk away with a full alphabet that feels uniquely *you.*

Font File Creation

Time to turn your letterforms into a working font file you can install, type with, and eventually sell. In this module, I’ll guide you through vector cleanup, spacing, kerning, and how to use the best font-building tools (without wanting to cry).

We’ll cover all the nitty gritty from exporting your .otf file to testing it, plus optional fancy stuff like ligatures, alternates, and stylistic sets if you’re feeling extra.

Setting Up Shop

You made a font! Now let’s package it up and get it out into the world. This module walks you through setting up your own font shop (whether it’s on your site or Creative Market), crafting listings & marketing graphics that actually convert, and presenting your font in a way that feels on-brand and irresistible.

You’ll learn how to name your font, write descriptions that sell *without* being cringe, and create preview graphics that help your type shine. Bonus: I’ll share swipe templates and my go-to shop setup checklist.

  • You’ll need Adobe Illustrator and the Fontself Maker plugin (grab it here for $39) to build, create, & export your font file. For drawing, I teach the course using my iPad and Procreate but you can totally use whatever works best for you. A drawing tablet, a different app, or even good old pencil and paper will do the trick. The process is flexible, and works no matter your setup.

  • If you’re interested in taking this course, I would recommend you have some prior design experience and knowledge/access to Adobe Illustrator. It helps to have a good hand at drawing, however I’ve seen many font designs that feel like a free-for-all, and doesn’t conform to any rules, and they come out AWESOME!

    As long as you have the desire to make your own font, access to illustrator, and want to make passive income by doing so, this course is for you :)

  • This course is pre-recorded, so you can complete the lessons at whatever pace works best for you! I know some designers who take months to really perfect their font, and some designers who can bang out a font in one day! I would say on average, to really start seeing some consistent sales on Creative Market, give it a couple of months! :)

  • While I can't guarantee anything, as long as you utilize the tools, lessons, and tricks inside this course, I am confident you will be able to make a font product that is attractive and will sell!

  • The total cost to take this course and start selling your own fonts is around $200, including the Fontself Maker plugin.

    FYI, I earned $300 in my first month on Creative Market alone, completely passively (and I’m not just saying that because it’s a buzzword). That’s after their commission, and before even setting up my own shop (which I highly recommend too so you can keep 100% of the profits!!).
